Water Curing: The Trick To Better Tasting Edibles

The most common complaint about homemade edibles is “they taste like weed”. This is often due to an excessive amount of chlorophyll left in the end material.

Today we will help remove that weedy flavor by using a technique known as water curing.

Warning!

This method is intended for oral ingestion. This will ruin the flavor of smoked flower. The goal here is to remove chlorophyll as well as other unwanted materials to help aid with flavor and digestion.

What you'll need!

1 large Mason Jar or container.

1 large container of distilled water

Decarboyloated cannabis (Cannabis in its raw form is not orally active meaning if you ate cannabis raw you wouldn’t feel much. Placing the cannabis in an oven at 220 degrees Fahrenheit for around 30 mins, your cannabis will now be what’s known as orally active)

In this scenario, we are using vaporized cannabis. While the majority of the medicinal component has been used while vaporizing, the leftover material when used in abundance works wonderfully for edibles or hand lotion.

Step 1 place decarboxylated cannabis in a jar

Step 2) Fill jar with distilled water.

Step 3) check water after 60 mins. If water is murky, dump water and refill.

(The picture above has only been sitting for 60 seconds. The longer you wait the darker the water becomes. Save yourself distilled water and let it sit for at least sixty minutes before rinsing)

Step 4) continue checking every few hours to drain murky water until the water remains clear.

I used an LED light behind the jar to show you can almost see through the water.

At some point the smell will become less noticeable. It’s personal preference when you decide to stop this process. As you can see, the material has been condensed since removing the extra impurities.

Step 5) Once you feel it’s clear enough mix with your fat (butter, coconut oil, Olive oil) and infuse as you normally would!

From my experience potency remains the same but the cannabis flavor is much more subtle.

Enjoy your edibles and stay safe this holiday season!
